Very slow loading of thumbnails and EPG data on EETV AppleTV (new install)

I’ve just fired up my EETV AppleTV for the first time, and slowly picked my way out of utter bewilderment, mostly helped by realising that MENU is effectively the missing ‘Back’ button, except when it isn’t.

It all loaded with the thumbnails blank, no information on each line of the EPG, and some other things that looked like they get dynamically loaded missing.

I could use the EPG to go to the channels and watch them just fine though (even though I didn’t know what I was going to get), no glitches, no stutters, so that part of the internet provision was working fine.

Eventually, though, the thumbnails did populate. So I thought ‘OK, looks like a FTT issue, it should be OK now’.

But I shut it down for lunch, came back after, all the thumbnails etc. were gone again, and they didn’t come back in the 30 minutes I waited.

Any suggestions? Do I remember that there was a setting in the router config you had to toggle from BT to EE, as my broadband has just been swapped across, or was that something else?

But I reckon those thumbnails should populate  in seconds on the 490mbps out of 500 I get in the lounge.

(The Box Mini I swapped off the HDMI connection to my TV in order to install the AppleTV was working perfectly, by the way).

In the EPG, I see ‘No info available’ on BBC One HD, and if I choose it anyway, it comes up with ‘BBC One South    to’, as a text message, which then has a violent attack of hiccups, darting to the right a little, and then flying back. Perhaps failing to display something else?

Anyway, all very unsatisfactory as a first experience 😢

@Midnight_Voice Linked to the issue mentioned on the BT service status page perhaps?

Good thought, but I’m with EE now, and they aren’t reporting any problems.

However, it will make sense for me to wait until that status clears, and then try again, so thanks for the heads up!

Thumbnails are back, app icons aren’t.

As of 2nd January, all as it should be. So it looks like just an unfortunate coincidence that I started trying to use my EETV AppleTV box in the middle of BT having problems.

i wonder why EE never reported anything though?

No idea.

I did try the EE Service Status checker but it came up blank for me.
