Multiple channels showing "On Now"

Recently joined with EE TV Pro box, and using in aerial mode to get as many channels as possible.

However have found a whole section of channels such as NHK World 286 and others in the 200s where the tv guide always shows the channel as being "On Now" but nothing plays. All I see is a blue/black screen with the NHK World logo (or whatever) and the title of the programme that is meant to be playing. The signal seems to be a decent signal strength (other channels that are playing have similar strength when I check)...I have re-tuned several times and all these channels are always picked up but they just aren't playing.

Can someone please help? @Therickster I saw you had similar with That 60's channel - did you manage to solve it? I know NHK broadcasts 24/7 so I should be able to see it!

There are certain Freeview channels, between 250 and 299 which are delivered over the internet and not over the air. YouView boxes, including the Pro box, can handle the format that some of them are in, HbbTV, but not others that are in the older MHEG-IC standard.

286 is one of those, and displays ‘Connect your Freeview device to the internet for more great free TV’. So it knows you can’t get it, but it doesn’t know why.

I’m not sure if the 100% Signal Strength and Quality actually measure anything on internet channels.

If you have a smart TV, try watching this channel on that. Freeview sets that are at least internet-capable must support MHEG-IC, or they can’t be certified. This is one of the subtle differences from YouView, which mostly handles Freeview OK, but doesn’t do a few things that Freeview sets must, and does a few things that Freeview sets mustn’t.

It works fine on my LG C2, for instance.

Interesting that you recon that the Pro box can handle hbbtv as none of them seem to work on the Pro box

See my (new) sig - I don’t actually have a Pro box. But I’m assuming it hasn’t actually gone backwards from my T4000, except maybe that some of the buttons seem to have fallen off the remote.

So can you try channels 263 and 265 on a Pro box, and tell me if they load, as they do on my T4000, or not?

I can’t get any of the others up to 299 to load, though I haven’t tried them all.

By the way, I was wrong about Freeview; MHEG support is now optional :-https://www.freeview.co.uk/help/viewing-ip-channels

So current TVs may well not support any more of these internet channels than Freeview does, though my 2022 LG C2 does show them.
