I just want to add a sports upgrade to my EE TV package for one month. I choose the £34.99 per month Now Sports package. At checkout however I get a banner alert saying buying this month will re-contract by broadband for 24 months. How can I avoid this? EE goes on about flexibility of packages but this is a huge barrier.

Turns out you can only do this by phoning EE. So much for 'unbeatable flexibility'. Oh, and you have to phone back at the end of the month when you want it taken off. Really poor CX. Why choose EE TV if they don't allow you to self-serve this flexibility?

Just go direct to Now TV as you'll probably get a better deal with more flexibility.

@flospa Your image (now viewable) is in my view a promotion for the flexing (changing) your base EETV package on a month by month basis, What you seem to have chosen(wanted) is to take a (rolling) monthly addon of Now Sports membership to your current base EETV package,. Simply adding o Now membership rolling addon or ceasing that addon should not require you to recontract broadband or change your base EETV package unless you knowingly agree to take a special offer. (If you are in month 1 or past month 21 of your minimum period there may be some restrictions)
Looking at EE EETV terms and conditions I believe the Now membership addon wouold under the T&C 's be an extra

I think @Northerner has it right. I wish I'd just gone via Nowtv directly. EE still doesn't seem to be able to add on the monthly £34.99 of Sky Sports via Now. I was on the phone for over 2 hours with EE and 9 different agents said they'd completed this process. Still hasn't happened. I literally don't know what to do with their incompetence.

Self-serve is coming, however there are delays with delivering the new ordering system. For now, you need to call.

Calling made no difference. Nine different agents all thought they'd made the order. Nothing is visible in the account. And every single agent that I got passed to had to be taken through what I wanted to do. Every one reassured me it was working. None of them have resolved the issue.
