Glitchy when watching TNT Sport and Sky Sport

Hi

Recently when I am watching TNT Sport and Sky Sports on the TV Box pro it seems to glitch every few minutes. I never had this problem when I had Sky Q. Could it be an issue with the Box? I don't seem to have these issues when Watching TNT via Discovery Plus or Sky Sports via Now TV which makes think it's not a wifi issue.

First thing to note when troubleshooting is that at no point are you comparing apples with apples.

Sky Q delivers it's live sports channels via satellite.

discovery+ and NOW apps deliver their live sports channels over the internet using technology called Unicast (1 to 1).

The TV Box Pro delivers it's live sports channels over the internet using technology called Multicast (1 to many).

This means the problem can only be with BT/EE locally and their Multicast system, or most likely, the supplied router or TV Box Pro or interference between the two.

How is your TV Box Pro connected to your hub? I'm guessing WiFi based on your post?

Do you have this issue on any other channels delivered via the internet on the box, or do you use an aerial and only have a Big Sport subscription?

From memory, Unicast is more robust as it is easier for it to send any missed packets of data again as it is only delivering them to, well, you.

Multicast has a lot of advantages for scaling broadcast video delivery, but doesn't have the ability to go back and get any missed packets of data, which could be your issue.

If you are interested, BT Group (who own EE), have developed MAUD as a mix of the two technologies to maximise the customer experience when watching live events.

That is a very long winded way of saying "yeah, it could be your WiFi".

Hi

The router is connected via WIFI to the TV Box Pro. I can't connect via an
ethernet cable as the box is too far away from the TV. I have the full
works package and as far as I can tell it only happens when watching sport
on TV Box Pro. I've had EE TV since the end of October and the glitching
started in December.

The freeview channels are ok as the outside aerial is plugged into the box.

@Elliot1980

The fact it only happens on sports related channels sort of suggests to me it is an issue outside of your home, because if it was your hub, WiFi or internal interference, you would see it on other channels.

Usual troubleshooting before asking EE to investigate further is:

  • check for any updates to the box
  • power cycle the hub
  • light reset the TV Box Pro (keep recordings)

Hi I'm using  Netgear Powerline and it's glitching  on the TNT sports HD channels.
I plan to test it direct with direct Ethernet cable as I have a 15M cable so will reach . Only just had it installed .
Note.it does not glitch on the standard format only HD . Will also try a different HD cable to the EE box .

Move the powerline adapter so on its own in a powerpoint , replaced the EE HD cable with a better quality one and an turned the power off and on the EE Box , TNT sports HD now not fluttering/ Glitching .
