EE TV significant issues

Took delivery of TV equipment today. Set up Pro Box earlier on Samsung TV, watched Sky Sports for a bit and all seemed to be working well.  Just set up mini box on my Sony TV and Sky channels are unwatchable. Just pixels and broken sound. TNT Sport channels working fine.  Any ideas what is causing the issue?

Good morning @rsgils.

Welcome to the EE Community 😊

Just to be sure with this one, is it only the Mini Box having the pixilation issues, or is it now the Pro box too?

Also how is your Mini Box connected, is this via WiFi or Ethernet?

Peter

Thanks Peter, it's just the mini box and it's wired via ethernet cable.  I've turned down the resolution to 1080p and it can handle the Sky Sports channels in SD but not HD.  When I swapped the Pro box to that room in exactly the same setup it's all working fine.  Does the Pro have more processing power than the mini?  Just to reiterate, TNT SPorts in HD is working fine on both.

Thanks @rsgils, I'm not aware of any issues with the mini box and Sky Sports.

Is this exclusively live content, catch up, or both?

If you haven't already too, I'd recommend doing a light reset on this box.

I've just checked @rsgils and our system reports that your TV Box Mini is connected via Wifi rather than ethernet.  Could you please double check?

The processing power of the TV Box Mini is actually greater than that of the TV Box Pro, so there's no reason for it to perform worse, other than if it's struggling with connection speed.

Hi Darren,

I've swapped the pro and mini and the mini is working fine in the same room as the router so I've got it on WiFi. Even when wired in the other room the mini couldn't deliver Sky Sports in HD whereas the Pro can.  It's not ideal as I wanted to be able to record in the living room.  The old BT Humax box can't deliver either Sky Sports or TNT without significant picture and sound artefacting even in SD, so my plan to use that to record is a non starter.

Thanks again,

Richard

The old Humax box is also more than capable of supporting the channels in HD.  It only supports a wired connection, so the common factor here is the wiring - it sounds like that is causing the network issues.  How is it wired?  Direct cable to the hub?  Powerline adapters?  Network ports in the home?
