SIM Jacking - Port Freeze or Number Lock

lornaschmidt

It appears as if the security threat of ‘SIM jacking’ is increasing and one of the recommended ways of protecting against it is to ‘Lock your phone number with your service provider’ - Many network service providers offer Port Freeze or Number Lock to protect your mobile number from unauthorized transfer. Once activated, you can't port your number to another line or carrier unless you remove the lock, either with a PIN or by walking into the store. If your carrier allows this feature, it's an excellent way to beef up your SIM protection.

Does EE offer this service?

Hello @lornaschmidt

Thanks for coming here.

This is not an option I am aware of with EE.

To be able to port a number to another network the account holder must pass all of our security measures that are put in place to protect their number.

Hi Katie

Thank you for your response.

Hi,

How do I add security to prevent a phone number transfer request via code request? I am trying to change services to use my authenticator app buttons some like banking require my mobile number. I am concerned that my mobile number is taken by scammers as my details are in several data breeches and I get a lot of phishing attempts via SMS and email. Can my number be locked to my phones IMEI number or a passcode before the number can be transferred to a new SIM?

Hi @Scotslad2k

Thanks for your question.

There isn't a way to lock your number to a specific device only. I understand your concern about this, but as @Katie_B  said, we have security measures in place to make sure only account holders are able to get a PAC. We would also send a confirmation text to your phone should anyone request a number transfer.
