Got a call from my own number

Recently I’ve had a call from 0345 300 5178 claiming it’s Halifax but turned out it was scam. The number comes up legit as a Halifax. And today got a call from my own number. Is there a way to disable any new sims that may have been cloned. And is there 2fa that doesn’t use my phone number?

@Mmmmmmmmmm1   you need to call customer services about this.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

Waste of time when I called them. They can’t put extra security. When I called they asked for characters from my password which I’ve forgot so they sent me a one time code. But then I told them if someone has cloned my number and the first step can be bypassed, the scammers can get the one time code sent to the cloned number. Ee should allow other methods of 2fa with different apps (authy or Google).

Hi @Mmmmmmmmmm1,

Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂

This sounds like an example of number spoofing. This wouldn't allow someone to receive text messages sent to your number, just to appear as if they were calling from your number.

Please see Call spoofing - The EE Community for more details.

Your Sim hasn't been cloned, your Sim, Number and Device are Authenticated by the Network.

Any attempt to clone your Sim, someone would need to physically get hold of your Sim to access the Sims details, but even then it wouldn't work on a Network as any attempt to use a cloned Sim would raise Bandit Alarms on the Network.

Sounds like the Caller is Number Spoofing, this is a simple trick to Push a different Number on a outgoing generated Call, this method is used for Out Going Calls only and cannot be used for any Incoming Calls to the Fake Caller, so they will not be privy to any of your Incoming Calls or Texts.

Number Spoofing is a Telecoms Flaw and is transparent over any Cellular Network which is just handling the Telephone Call.
