EE sending me a new SIM? Scam?

Donhay

Just had a call claiming to be from EE. Said due to “recent merger” I would receive new SIM in next few days but would retain existing number and nothing else would change.
Then started asking for ID confirmation.
Didn’t feel right so ended the call.
Anyone else had this?

Number calling was 0203 885 1875

Hi @Donhay

Welcome to the community.

This does sound a little suspicious as we would not usually call you to say we'd need to change the SIM and would only offer a change of SIM if there was a problem with the current one, or you had just upgraded.

I've had a look at the number for our Direct Partners and the numbers that EE would call from and the number that has called you is not listed.

You can report the call as a scam call on our Report a scam or nuisance call page.

It may also be worth speaking to our customer service guides, so they can bring up your account and make sure there has been no suspicious activity.

Just had the same from 020 8058 3566. They said they had all my details and needed me to verify my e-mail address. Proposed they just send the e-mail and at that point she had to put me on hold. I disconnected then. If EE need to send me an e-mail, I'm sure they would.

If someone could explain what a valid comment is on the "report a scam or nuisance call", that would be cool since it's acting like a firewall and stops you reporting - specifically since it doesn't identify what's wrong.  Also the phone number I tried to report 020805803566 isn't seen as a phone number, I have to remove the leading zero for that to work.

Hi @GHTubthumper

Welcome to our community.

I'm sorry you are having trouble with the form, are you able to try replacing the 0 with a + instead?

The comments section is a maximum of 500 characters, have you kept within that range?

Lesley

Removing the zero worked, I had only written 3 lines in the comment box so
wasn't over the limit.

Thanks for checking that @GHTubthumper

I'll feedback the issue with the number. When submitting, it should have a red box at the top of the page advising of any info needing correct, is anything popping up there?

I had the exact same thing happen to me today. It’s a total scam asking for my security questions to my account.
The number was 01438 582614. Beware!

I am here to check the same. Just had a call telling me EE was updating their tech and sending me a new sim card. She asked me for my current email- I said NO!

She said (Indian accent) 'Ma'am its quite safe everything is recorded'- told her what the hell has that to do with anything-recorded by whom- that doesn't make it safer!

Anyway - hung up on her.

Number: 020 3518 9523 it says 'London' but could be anywhere.
