Hi.. today I received a call from a very similar number to mine just a couple end digits off.. the guy said he was returning a call I just made to him (which I hadn't) and then I told him I had not called him and he said OK no worries bye.
Thinking this was an anomaly of some sort I went on with my day.. then when I was away from my phone around an hour later another different number very similar to mine I have a missed call from.. no message left.
I am not sure what the scam could be here..is someone else somehow using my number to call people?

Hi there - same thing has been happening to me for months - at least once or twice a day I get a call from an number almost identical to mine - just with the last three digits changing each time. Each time I answer they hang up. Now I don’t answer but they still keep calling. I can’t work out the scam or why it’s happening? Each time I block the number but of course they are working through hundreds of iterations changing the last three digits so the exact same number never calls twice.
can you advise? Changing my number is not an option.
best

Hi @Mbain
I am sorry to hear you are receiving these calls.
You can report the call to EE, if you text 'call' to 7726 followed by a space, then the number that called you, we will get this looked into.
Thanks 🙂
Leanne.

Hi @Norris1
We use the data collected to help protect all of our customers, we would not need to contact you after you have reported this.

Just want to add that I am in the same boat, had this happen a few times over the last month or so. My number was ported over from Vodafone when I moved to EE a few years ago. Number is always the same as mine with random last 3 digits.
I've been TPS registered on this number since they started accepting mobile numbers.

It's called neighbourhood spoofing (or something like that). I just googled it as I've had the same issue, every week for a month.
Advice given is to not answer as our lines are being tested to see if they are in use. If we answer then its confirmed and our numbers are apparently passed on to other scammers!

so why is this just happening to people with EE numbers and no other reported issues online from other networks? This leads to an issue with security internally with EE.

They have now got smarter, received 3 calls now from similar numbers in the last 24 hours with only 10 digits instead of the 11 we would have in the UK.
How is a call getting through with only 10 digits? And to claim EE cant do anything about this is BS

I've had it happen quite a bit on My Vodafone number, it's not just EE. It's all random.
