I lost my old SIM card so I’ve ordered a new one it arrived today but I can’t activate it without my old sim

When I go to sim swap it is asking me for my number and then saying it will send me a code to my old sim
all I want to do is activate the sim and then cancel my monthly plan so I can just have a pay as you go

No I don’t no how to do that. I’m very bad on the phone I always used the web chat but now it’s not available.
I need the sim to cancel my monthly plan and I need to do it before 28th or I will pay for another month that will be 2 months I’ve paid for not using it
