Do I need the EE app with my own router and an EE PAYG sim ?

Do I need the EE app on my phone - when I have my own router (TPLink) and an EE PAYG sim ? Or is that just for those with EE supplied broadband and phone - which I don’t get in my area? So this is all new to me. 

Will the app be any use for me? Like be able to remind me when my sim is going to run out?

@SassyBrit  The My Ee app is your access to your account with EE it doesn’t matter what device you are using.  

Or do you mean the EE home app ?  This will only work with EEs smart router.

You may use the MyEE app to help you with your EE SIM to keep an eye on its status, to top-up and to buy packs and add-ons but it is not essential. Your choice!
