Roaming refresh

JordanTA

What’s changing?

  • We’ve made non Europe Zone roaming easier with EE. From the 4th of December we'll be launching our new roaming passes that you can buy from the moment you land
  • This means we’re removing a number of Inclusive Extras passes and add-ons listed below and you will no longer be able to buy a pass before you travel
  • For customers with inclusive EU Roaming today or iPhone Full Works plans, nothing is changing and those roaming benefits will stay the same. To see our new plans with roaming included click here

How can I see the new prices?

What if I don’t buy a pass when I’ve landed outside of the Europe zone?

  • You can use minutes and texts, but out of bundle rates will apply
  • You will not be able to use data
  • Out of bundle rates vary dependent on the zone follow this link to find the most accurate costs for your trip
  • We recommend buying a pass to cover all usage across minutes, texts and data

I received a text about my roaming products being removed, which products are no longer being sold?

  • The following products will no longer be available to select from the 4th of December. If you already have one of these products, it will continue to work until you are notified that this has been removed from your account
  • Roam Abroad Pass, Roam Further Pass, Roam Abroad Inclusive Extra, Roam Further Inclusive Extra, Travel Data Pass, World Select Talk and Text, Anywhere Minutes, Anywhere Texts

What happens when my product is removed?

  • You will receive a text from us when the product has been removed with more information on our new offers and instructions on how to purchase them

Inclusive Extras:

  • We will be in touch with details of when your Inclusive Extras will be changing. There'll be two new products; one for EU zone roaming and one for ROW 1 zone, which covers 33 destinations

How will this affect my travel in Europe?

  • There are no changes to the way you use your device in Europe immediately as part of this change
  • We have introduced a new EU roaming Inclusive Extra for customers on plans that can select a benefit as part of their plan
  • In 2025, there will be an EU 7-day pass which will make it cheaper for customers who pay our daily roaming charge in the EU to use their device for a full 7 days

I was looking at the Full Works plan  and assumed the ‘EU and further’ meant the EU and ROW1 roaming are already included?

  • Or is it more text that needs updating?

We were told on here that it is going to be included but it hasn't happened as of yet and no one seems to know when/if it will.

The thing is on the full works plans you don't get access to the same inclusive extras as all rounder so can't even add the Row.

So so called full works top plan customers are completely left out and in a worse position.

Why we can't access regular and premium inclusive extras is beyond me

They need to replace the Roam Further Pass from the addons with an equivalent for RoW Zone 1 essentially.

In this post it specifically mentions the Roam Further Pass as one of the addons that is disappearing, but yet it is still actively sold as part of the Full Works plans.

Just to check my understanding / share my thoughts regarding my options going forward:

- The original post says for customers with inclusive EU roaming or the iPhone full works plan, nothing changes. So my assumption above that would change to EU + ROW1 is wrong. ‘EU and further’ is a vague statement which means I’d get free roaming in the States (and the other countries covered on Roam Further) but not for example Turkey / Thailand which are ROW1

- My main plan is the All Rounder sim with an inclusive extra. My previous inclusive extra was Roam Further (so EU + 5 countries) which I changed to ROW1 based on incorrect text (said EU countries plus ROW1) that turned out to be wrong. Turns out I currently have the ROW1 countries only and got charged for a recent trip to Europe (not the end of the world, I can change between the EU and ROW1 bolt on when I need to now I know)

So my thoughts / observations are:

- I looked at adding a new sim only to my account. All of the packages on offer don’t seem to have any inclusive extras available to select relating to roaming (they only offer Google, Netflix etc.). The base tariff either offers EU roaming as standard or doesn’t. None of them seem to offer the ability to choose free roaming as an inclusive extra like they used to before

- I can still change my line (well more the other two I have on my line that my niece and nephew use) to the iPhone Full Works plan but its well priced and doesn’t give the full ROW1 benefit nor is it likely too

So I think EE have done away with ROW1 as a benefit moving forward for anyone who is not on an older plan where a roaming bolt on can be added meaning we’ll all be paying the £25 per week for roaming from the next time we upgrade.

For me, it means I’ll be staying on my All Rounder package for as long as EE will let me keep it.

But the other two lines are out of term in March, its time to move on as they’ll be in the US and Mexico in May and I don’t fancy picking up £100 (£25 per week per line) extra charge for them to be able to use their phones there.

Hi @_MrR_

We still offer Full Works SIM plans which include the additional countries. If this isn't showing for you as an option online, I'd recommend speaking to our team on 150 so they can look at options for you.

so I rang 150 a few days ago and spoke to a lovely lady called Lindsay. She said she has worked at EE for 25 years and never has she had so much confusion around roaming! she spoke to a few team leaders and apparently anyone on a plan with roam further from 2024, the roam further extra has been changed to include the zone 1 countries, it's just not been updated online yet? but I don't think she's convinced. She went off for a few hours and called me back and said she was baffled, because there is not 1 plan, that they sell right now, that includes zone 1 as an inclusive extra. She was able to get access to the old full works plan with 3 extras and you can add the zone 1 extra there, but EE aren't actively selling that plan anymore, it's so bad!

I spoke to CS rep in the Scarborough office today and he confirmed that my Full Works plan does have ROW1 included even though it does not show in the My EE app. I queried what he was telling me as when I was in Singapore last month I got the welcome text telling me I could buy a £5 one day pass etc etc. The CS rep said no you have ROW1 and sent me a list of all the countries in three texts. I hope he is right. I'll be in Singapore in March so I'll report back in due course!

Let us know how you get on.

I would be rather doubtful given that info doesn't seem to line up with any evidence I've seen, even within EE's own T&Cs. Likewise, when checking the roaming cost calculator in the EE App they still show as chargeable. There would likely need to be some kind of add-on enabling this to be inclusive or an updating of the existing Roam Further Pass add-on to include the additional countries.

(Sorry, not trying to dampen your enthusiasm!)

I share your scepticism. He said rhe new plans took effect from 4th December but as I say that didn't seem to be the case last month. Let's see what happens next week!
