Roaming passes in EU & setting up

I am going on holiday in a few weeks and realised I now have to activate a roaming pass on arrival after receiving a text. I am travelling to the canary islands so EU pass for 7 days is what I'd be looking for.  I have a monthly contract for my phone.

There is very little information on how exactly it works. How quickly is it applied? - in the past it's taken up to 24 hours to be activated but that was when you could get a pass set up prior to travelling! What happens if it takes 24 hours to be applied to my contract - do I get charged for the first day at the daily rate?

How easy is it apply pass once a text from EE is received? 

Id appreciate if anyone who has done this since all this came into effect could give me a run down of how straight forward this all is. It was much easier setting it up for the date you were travelling!

You'll receive a Welcome text upon arrival at a country giving your roaming options. Once you select your preference it will be activated immediately.

You may use your usual UK allowances in the EU with up to 50 GB (contract) or 25 GB (PAYG) data per billing month if you have more. If on contract & your contract started after 07/07/2021 there'll be a £2.59 / day charge for using your UK allowances in EU unless you buy the 7-day EU Pass for £15 or the 12-day EU Pass for £21.50 or you already have them as an Inclusive Extra or you have an EE Essential Plus, All Rounder or Full Works Plan.

As you are on contract, just remember to text ROAMING to 150 before leaving UK to ensure the roaming ability is enabled on your no.
