My contract ran out in 2017, but I get roaming free because I had said contract before 2017. If I upgrade my contract will I loose my free roaming whilst abroad?

Important clarification needed here.

Roaming Passes are no longer an Inclusive Extra choice on any plans taken on or after 29th August 2024 (Tariff Refresh 24).

As such a customer upgrading to an All Rounder plan would have to pay the daily/weekly rate for Zone 1 Access, unless they took a Full Works plan.

Below is the current state of play for any plans taken since that date and their FOC Roaming status:

Essentials Plus plans have EU Roaming baked into the plan. These plans have no Inclusive Extra choices.

All Rounder plans get EU Roaming ONLY which is baked into the plan, alongside a basic Inclusive Extra choice. (This choice cannot be used on a Roaming Pass like Roaming Pass ROW)

New Full Works plans have EU Roaming and ROW Zone 1 baked into the plan as you have correctly said, alongside one premium Inclusive Extra choice. (Choice cannot be used on a Roaming Pass, but these are already baked in)

As of today, the ONLY way for a customer to get FOC ROW Zone 1 access when taking a new plan or upgrading with EE is to take a Full Works plan.

If you upgrade to a:

  • All Rounder plan you'll get EU roaming OR ROW Zone 1 roaming included. You'll need to keep switching between them as you change zones.
  • Full Works plan you'll get EU roaming AND ROW Zone 1 roaming included. Both are included simultaneously, so no switching.

See Roaming Refresh for definitions of EE Zones.

There are plans that you choose between EU & ROW1 Roaming as Inclusive Extras, aren't there? As in data roaming mexico :

As that was for an All Rounder, I accordingly wrote my statement.

Any such cases are plans that were taken Pre Tariff Refresh 24 and relied on the Roam Abroad Pass Inclusive Extra for their FOC Roaming.

A customer upgrading today will not have the option of any Roaming Passes as Inclusive Extra choices, as they are baked into the tiers of plans as laid out above.

This is reflected in the Inclusive Extra T&Cs where there are two separate sets of Terms for plans taken up to 28th August 2024 and plans taken from 29th August 2024. The Inclusive Extra choices for plans taken from 29th August 2024 do not feature any Roaming Passes.

The EU Roaming and Roaming Pass ROW Inclusive Extra options are essentially an accommodation for those on these older All Rounder or Full Works plans so that they can still have the level of FOC Roaming they had prior to Roaming Refresh until they decide to upgrade.

These Inclusive Extras simply are not available on plans taken on or after 29th August 2024.
