Roaming EU

I am going on holiday for a week to France and I wanted to use my Internet there. However, my internet is part of a plan and it's not on my name and I'm neither paying. So, I wanted to know how I can active my Internet for 5 days abroad (Do I need to let the owner of the account know or I can do it myself? Also, do I pay at once or it will come in the end of the month bill? And which plan would be the best? )

Roaming in the EU is done on a flat-rate basis. That is, rather than paying per-minute or per-text, you pay a flat-rate for use of your UK allowances including data upto a 50GB/month FUP. That charge is added to your monthly bill as with any other charges you incur during a billing month.

That flat-rate fee is £2.59/day, unless you opt for a £15/week or £21.50/12day option - explained on https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/roaming/roaming-costs

You need to enable the free roaming facility before leaving the UK, by texting ROAMING to 150. This unlocks access to foreign networks and thus having coverage abroad. When your phone first connects to a foreign network, you'll receive a welcome text message confirming all the above, and giving you the option to choose an extended pass if you didn't want to default to the daily charge. Data roaming will only work with an add-on in place, so using any mobile data whilst roaming without choosing the 7 or 12day option, will automatically trigger the daily charge option.

You may need to ask the account holder to ensure you have permissions to purchase add-ons and sufficient headroom in  your spend-cap for the charges to be added - else those restrictions (if they are in-place) will ultimately prevent services from working.

https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/manage-use/pay-monthly/set-up-and-manage-spend-cap - I believe the "buy add-on" permission can be easily checked via your myEE online account.

That was very helpful! Thank you :))

As you have given no details of your circumstances & particularly the plan you are on, this is necessarily a lengthy reply.

You'll receive a Welcome text upon arrival at a country giving your roaming options.

You may use your usual UK allowances in the EU with up to 50 GB (contract) or 25 GB (PAYG) data per billing month if you have more. If on contract & your contract started after 07/07/2021 there'll be a £2.59 / day charge for using your UK allowances in EU unless you buy the 7-day EU Pass for £15 or the 12-day EU Pass for £21.50 or you already have them as an Inclusive Extra or you have an EE Essential Plus, All Rounder or Full Works Plan.

On PAYG there will be roaming charges to use your pack allowances in the EU, to be taken only from your PAYG credit, not your recurring card payment. You will receive a msg upon arrival offering & inviting you to take up the options for roaming in EU of either £2.50 / day, by replying ROAMEU1D to 150, or £10 / week, by replying ROAMEU7D to 150. If you opt to reply neither or you don't have an active pack, you will be paying standard rates for calls & texts & will need to buy a PAYG add-on for data.

If you are on contract, just remember to text ROAMING to 150 before leaving UK to ensure the roaming ability is enabled on your no.

If you are on PAYG, just make sure you had already used your PAYG SIM to make a call or text in the UK.
