I've paid £25 for a monthly roaming pass. I'm in Slovenia with a good signal from Mobitel (automatically selected). My wife gets data on her 5G phone but I get nothing on my 4G phone. I've tried all the other networks - no luck. Any ideas? The £25 add-on normally works fine for me.
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

Thanks Alex (and Bristolian) for your helpful ideas! I tried texting and calling today and it worked fine, but still no data (although roaming correctly enabled). Then looked at my phone a few hours later and was very pleased to see that I was online again! I'm still on the Mobitel network and I have a good 4G signal. I did switch the device off last night so maybe that reset something?
Anyway, all good now and thanks for your help.

Is your wife's phone using a 5G network, or 4G?
Are the symptoms identical for you on each local network?

Thanks for your reply. My wife's phone is 5G. She's also on EE and gets data fine in Slovenia. I did wonder if my 4G phone was the issue, but I thought a 4G device could handle a 5G signal, only with lower speeds?

Also, when I try to connect to an alternative network, I get a message saying that my SIM cannot connect to this network.

You need to have a 5G phone to access a 5G network, but 5G phones can fallback to 4G (or even 2G or 3G) anytime 5G isn't available.
I therefore question whether your wife's phone is connecting over a 5G network or 4G one. If 4G, it naturally follows that using the same network on your phone is the next test.

Thanks - I've checked out your suggestion. My wife's 5G Android phone automatically connects to Telemach, and she definitely gets a 5G signal with data from that network. My 4G Android phone won't connect to Telemach; when I try to do this manually it says: 'your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network'. That's the message I get on every network apart from Mobitel, which my phone selects automatically. I checked out Mobitel (aka Telekom Slovenia) - apparently it is also a 5G network but serves 4G devices as well.

Hi @PaulUnderwood52,
Is it only data that is not working, can you call and text without any issue?
If it is only data, make sure to check data roaming is enabled in your settings. Also check to make sure you have no VPN enabled currently.
A reset of the network settings on your phone followed by restarting can help to resolve data connection issues also.
I know it may not be possible given you are abroad, but if you are able to swap SIMs between the two phones that would help confirm if it was a phone or SIM issue.
