Data Only SIM Speed

Hi,

I am considering buying a EE SIM to use in my Mobile Router.  I read through the T&C's for the PAYG and Pay Monthly Data Laptop and Dongle plans (from August 2024) and there is no information in there regarding data speeds and prioritization.  I very nearly ordered a SIM only unlimited  Full Works plan (on offer at moment) which promises the fastest data speed and VIP prioritization in congested areas, so wanted to know what I would be getting if selecting the Unlimited Data Only Pay Monthly plan at £27 p/m vs the Unlimited Full Works plan at £24 p/m for 6 months then £48 p/m for remaining 18 months.  If EE CS can answer this, or someone with experience I would appreciate it.  Many Thanks, Warren

Hi @MrWB

Thanks for coming back to the community.

If the speed is capped at 10 Mbps, it would be one of our No Frills plans. The Essentials plans are capped at 100 Mbps, and the All Rounder and Full Works plans would have no cap.

It can be cancelled within 14 days if you ordered online or over the phone, and to do this you just need head over to our How can I return a device or SIM bought within the last 14 days page.

No guarantees are made regarding speeds on the mobile network, there are too many variables.

Hi, thanks for coming back.  I realise that there are no guarantees of data speeds anywhere and any time, however, the Unlimited Full Works (non iPhone) Unlimited SIM only deal (£24 p/m for 6 months then £48 p/m for remaining 18 months) clearly states there are no restrictions on data speeds compared with the essentials plan (like for like) and there is also a VIP solution to prioritise these SIM's on a congested cell site, I am guessing f there is contention with other EE SIM plans.  I wanted to know what data management policies are being applied to each of these plans?  Again, this is irrelevant of the location / speed, it is how each plan is managed in the network in terms of throttling and this 'VIP' reference?

Just to confirm in EE language.

Unlimited Full Works description:

Our fastest speed and incredible extras. Enjoy ultra HD video and 4K gaming. Gift data to family, get unlimited watch data and a VIP connection when the network is busy. No-charge roaming in the EU and beyond. Choose an extra like NetflixTNT Sports, an Xbox pass or Google One. Uncapped speed.

Pay Monthly Data SIM Description:

Our simplest data plan without any added extras

Hi @MrWB

Welcome to our community and thanks for your question.

The 'VIP access' is a network boost for all customers on the new Full Works and All Rounder plans. The network boost automatically gives you a connection boost when you're in a busy or built-up area, limiting or preventing any data buffering.

Hi again,

After speaking with you on the 12th September I went ahead and signed up for a unlimited data only SIM, which arrived yesterday.  I have found that the data speed is capped, which was not at al mentioned in the plan's T&C's PDF and which is what I was trying to establish when discussing the different plan options.  Only after signing up did I get to know my speed is capped at 10 Mbps.

So it is showing max data speeds of 10 Mbps, which does not meet with my current needs.  If I had been advised of this beforehand I would not have opted to get this plan.  I will now need to cancel, at least I am within my 14 day colling off period.
