New sim not working

Hello!

I bought a new sim card for an old phone today but it isn't working at all. It just says "ee unavailable".  I've done all the troubleshooting steps such as turning the phone on and off and checking the service status in the area. I had to use the mobile number for my work phone (not ee) to register to post and can't use the app because I cannot receive the security code to the ee number! 

I read elsewhere that you can kick-start the sim into working by topping it up. I've done that with my other phone and the money has come out of my account but I still have no service on the phone in question. 

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Welcome to the community.

Is the phone unlocked to work with any network?

Are you able to try that EE SIM in another phone and another SIM in that phone to see if this follows the SIM or the phone?
