put new sim card in phone says contact service provider

i have vintage Motorola razr v3i that used to be on orange network so i assumed since orange and t moblie formed ee i could put ee sim car in however once the sim card is in the phone it says contact servic provider

Welcome to the community,

It looks like your phone is locked to Orange and would need an unlock code , not sure whether EE can do that for you, as it is an old phone, you could try looking online or going to a store to get it unlocked, before your EE SIM card will work.

To contact EE customer service dial 150 from your mobile phone or ring customer service for free using web based app or another phone: +44 7953 966 or +44 330 123 1105.
