Mis sold tablet and dishonest sales person

Jouchouche

Hello.

We got a phone for our 11 year old daughter from one of your stores. We made it clear and greed with the sales person that our budget was around £35 a month and we ended up with more than £50 bill monthly as we were missold a 'free' tablet for an additional £20 a month. We repeated several times that we did not need the tablet and the sales person said that it was free.

This is a disgrace, really, especially when you are told that your total monthly bill will be £35 a month and that the tablet is free.

I will end my own contract with EE and my son's . I still cannot believe that things like that can be done.

Hello @Spectre_83

Welcome to the EE Community.

So I can look to help further, could you confirm if you have revisited the store you purchased your upgrade from to discuss this?

Speak soon,

Katie 🙂

  1. @Katie_B Hi thank you for your response and hopefully more helpful than some of the comments on here, who seem to be seeking to just irritate customers by attempting to flip the blame on “stupid customers”. Just to make it clear I don’t read the apple agreement in full either  but I trust that I haven’t agreed to sell them my soul by clicking agree.

I’m currently out of the country for work until the 29/10 so I haven’t been back to the store as I only discovered it when checking my recent bill out of curiosity.

I have attempted to call customer services in the uK but due to time differences I always seem to call during closed times. In terms of “ did I read what I signed” it was on a tablet with only the signature page to view and the information that was given to me was that I was signing for my upgraded phone when I enquired as to what I was signing. It was at no point stated sign this for your upgrade AND A NEW ADDITIONAL 24 month contract.

if I have asked what am I signing and the sales person hasn’t been forth coming in the true extent of what the agreement is when questioned, I can only feel that I have been duped into something I don’t want  by having information willingly held back.

Funny that because I've just been miss sold a watch. I was told it was free with the new phone I had, turns out it isn't free at all and I'm paying £16 a month for it.

Went into the store and the manager was quite arrogant telling me they don't do anything for free, this wound me up because he was basically calling me a liar.

Anyway he's refused to do anything about it, printed me off the Contract, but I noticed the signature is different to my signature. I never said anything there as I knew I was wasting my time and I don't have that signed contract at all, so this is now fraud as well as miss selling!

I've also fallen victim to this scam.

I renewed my mobile as I do every two years. Was offered the Lenovo tablet but declined because I already have a kindle.

Chap in the EE shop said you might as well have it because it's free. So I took it and it has been sat in the box in a drawer ever since.

Received a letter from EE this week showing that charges were increasing and I noticed two phone numbers listed. I called EE and they confirmed it was for the Lenovo tablet!

I've been paying for that for a year!

Disgusting practice EE. I've been a customer for over 25 years when it was Orange but I'll be leaving as soon as this contract period ends.

Hi, sorry for the delayed response. I had the same response when I went back to the store to return the device and state I did not want or agree to a new contract. I was offered the "free tablet" despite repeatedly telling the sales man that I wasn't even sure about upgrading as I already felt I was paying way too much for a phone and was reluctant to even spend that. He assured me numerous times my overall monthly costs would not increase by even a penny.

I think this is a sales tactic by EE either officially or unofficially by staff to trap customers into things they don't want and need as it seems to be rife in EE forums.

In the end a specialist team called me as I'd been an Tmobile/eE customer for 20 years they agreed to cancel the item and refund the 2 months of line rental.

With the recent increase in Line rental and other shady practices I will be looking for a sim only deal else where in all likelihood.

Hope you got your issue resolved.

I was offered the "free tablet" despite repeatedly telling the sales man that I wasn't even sure about upgrading as I already felt I was paying way too much.

He was persistent it was free. My monthly cost would not increase at all.

What they seems to all conviently leave out at EE is "free  WHEN you take a new 24th month LINE RENTAL agreement"

It is not FREE like in the way samsung will have an offer on Ear buds with particular devices you can later claim.

If it was a couple of people from some rogue stores you could say it was not a systemic issue however it appears to be prevelant throughout EE stores Nationwide to allow stores and sales people to hit commission targets.

All their sales teams in store also have an incredible knack of getting you to believe all youre singing up to is the new upgrade that you want but it requires several signatures.

Honestly speaking I believe EE is fully aware of this shady sales tactics but turns a blind eye as they're probably thousands of people unaware they're paying £200-£300 extra in unwanted line rentals for a tablet worth £70 that they only took home because it was "free"

In the end a specialist team called me as I'd been an Tmobile/eE customer for 20 years they agreed to cancel the item and refund the 2 months of line rental.
