EE text message when buying new phone

I am looking to buy a replacement phone for my sons birthday however in the past whenever i have done this the recipient always gets a text saying welcome to ee hope you like your new phone or thanks for upgrading etc, this obviously ruins the surprise of receiving a new handset, is there anyway of buying a new phone / plan without receiving text messages

These texts are as much a security protection against unscrupulous third parties & "scammers" who may obtain access to your online myEE account, and thus - as far as I know - can't be disabled.
