Update: 01 July 2021

Over the past few months our engineers have been carrying out surveys and working on design specifications on the area we had located for the new mast. Unfortunately, we have found the area is not going to be suitable for the equipment and have had to halt progress, we are now looking for a new site location.

Once we have found a new site location, we can complete the legal steps and required surveys to make sure the area will be suitable for the new mast. Once this stage is complete, we will update this post with an estimated installation date for the new mast.

Update: 15 January 2020

Our engineers have been looking at locations for a new mast due to congestion on the existing mast, in Malton. We’ve located an area for the mast to be installed, which will improve coverage in the area.

Once planning permission has been approved, we’ll work as fast as possible to get the new equipment in place.

Please keep an eye on this thread for future updates.

We’re aware that some customers in Malton are experiencing a degraded service.

This is due to congestion on our local site in Malton. We are looking at ways we can improve signal in the area, and we will update this post when we have further information.

In the meantime, if you’re an EE pay monthly customer with a compatible phone you can use WiFi Calling to make and receive calls and texts over a WiFi connection.

For details on how to set up this service, please see our WiFi calling help pages.

Using Wi-fi calling?? Think ee are missing the point we call them mobiles for a reason, I didn’t sign a contract to sit at home or work to use my phone 😡😡

Exactly!! I cannot seem to get a signal at all in malton and walking from station to my house in Norton. Like you say, if we want to make a call when out and about how are we supposed to do that using wi-fi?  EE, I think you should reduce your bill for pay monthly customers in this area as we are not receiving what we are paying for. A response would be appreciated.

Hi Thank you for this update.

Would it also not be possible to increase the number of bands and and band width in the short term.

At the moment the three masts covering malton and Norton broadcast bands 3 and 20.

The band 3 at 1800MHz only has 20mhz band width and band 20 at 800mhz only has 5mhz band width.

Like in other larger towns can you not harvest another 15mhz of the band 3 LTE and also two sets of Band 7 2600 Mhz and the band 1 2100 Mhz you also have. This would give a lot more capacity granted not ideal for coverage in the town centres but should help multi Carrier aggregation phones keep of the over crowed band 20 and 3 even 38!!

LTE Band Channel Width Status

15 MHzLimited / Partial Use
20 MHzActive
10 MHzActive
20 MHzActive
15 MHzActive
5 MHzActive
