Live in USA

Have EE chip for years . Make call ever 2-3 months for years to keep active.

It has been slow to get the carrier says SOS only for minutes then comes on. It was faster in past

Maybe my  chip is old still active for another year . Works fine in UK when go every year or so.

@sleejohnson : When did you previously make a chargeable action? EE PAYG SIMs are deactivated after 6 months of non-chargeable use. You then have a further 3 months period of grace to call EE to reactivate it before it is lost completely.

You needed to make a chargeable action like making a chargeable call or text, topping up or buying a Pack or Add-on, not just using your mins, texts or data from your pack.

I make a call every 2-3 months for the last 4 years from the USA
Stay London every year or so use for or week at a time.

IT TAKES LONGER IN MY LOCATION (HUDSON WISCONSIN) TO CONNECT TO A CARRIER NOW.
SAY SOS ONLY
ATT@T picked it up this time in past was T Mobile
IT TOOK 5 MINUTES TO COME ONLINE IN PAST YEARS WAS IN 30 SECONDS

The slowness to connect can have nothing to do with your PAYG SIM or EE. It is just the responsiveness of your local networks & how it changes over time.

I have topped up with my EE account online this year.
Years ago you needed a UK based credit card to do this.
In the past I topped up before I left the UK
I made sure I had enough for a call every 3 months at like 1.2 pounds
until I returned back the next year.
