Roaming

I’ve arrived into New York and turned on my roaming but I get no service. I can’t call out or receive calls or messages and the website is no help. There is no EE stores in New York so what do I do?

Can you explain how you believe you turned on roaming? The normal method is to text ROAMING to 150 before leaving the UK.

Your symptoms are typical for a phone without roaming being enabled.

Went into settings and turned on Roaming. Normally I get a text come through saying “welcome to the United States” I can’t text roaming because I have no service. I was told by the advisor in store that there was no need for me to do anything when I arrived which was clearly wrong information.

Where, specifically? It matters.

Roaming is an account-level setting that can only be enabled either by calling CS or texting ROAMING to 150 from the UK, this assumes you are pay-monthly. Once enabled, it remains active unless you specifically request it cancelled - have you?

Most phones have a menu option for "data roaming" which is just setting the ability to use mobile data whilst roaming. Roaming remains an account-level setting.

If you are confident roaming was previously active, then toggling flight mode and/or manually selecting an alternative local network, often rectifies.
