Roaming in the US (inclusive extra)

Hi all,

I just arrived in the US and I set roaming as my inclusive extra before arriving. I just wanted to check something before I start using data here though; do I need to turn 'Data roaming' on to use my plan's inclusive data allowance over here? Probably a stupid question I know, but I didn't want to rack up any unnecessary charges!

Thanks in advance!

@laowai184 : No, that's not enough!

As you are on contract, did you activate roaming on your EE a/c before you left UK by texting ROAMING to 150? Having a roaming billing add-on doesn't of itself activate roaming on your a/c. Having roaming activated on your EE a/c, not just on your device, is crucial to using your contract SIM abroad.

Often just rebooting the phone is the simple remedy. Also try selecting a network manually rather than auto.

Otherwise you need to call CS to get your roaming activated. Try calling CS on the Freephone no. in my sig. on Skype over WiFi. It should be free.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

Whoa - good job I asked! I am on contract, and no, I didn't activate roaming before leaving (I popped in my local EE shop and told them about my inclusive extra; they told me that's all I needed to do...)

When I choose a network manually, I see the following choices: Verizon, T-Mobile, 313 100 and AT&T. Any idea which one I should choose?

Thanks for the tip about calling on Skype, I'll do that ASAP!

*Edit* Just called EE and got it sorted - thank you so much for your help!

Hi @laowai184

Thanks for letting us know this is now sorted following the great advice from @XRaySpeX

You can select any available network, if you have your device on automatic network selection it should pick up the available network for you 🙂

I hope you have an amazing time.

Leanne.

Thanks! You're welcome 🙂 ! Glad I could be of assistance & trust it is now sorted.
