whatsapp verfication code won't come throuhh

Hi James please could you help me with this issue! 
I have just bought a phone for my son- set him up with an Apple ID linked to mine and then tried to download WhatsApp for him-  it won’t send me a verification code though- says try again in an hour. Any idea how to help me please

Could you restart the phone this morning please and give it another try? Let me know if it's working now please.
