I have PAYG - a monthly plan. I now have no mobile network connection. I am abroad and my pack shows that I should receive texts for free when abroad. What can I do to get a mobile network connection in Malaysia?

Hi @BigAl14

Did you make a call or send a text message from the SIM card before you travelled abroad?

In common parlance, PAYG is not a monthly plan.

PAYG refers to a pre-payment  "top-up" based phone where you cannot spend what you haven't got. You may have a regular monthly pack, but this is not contractual and you can stop it at any time. Roaming is auto-enabled on PAYG providing the phone is first used on EE's UK network.

A monthly plan is generally taken to mean a monthly billed contract where you are billed in arrears and have a minimum term, before which you cannot cancel without penalty. Roaming needs to be manually enabled on a pay-monthly phone.

The means to rectify lack of roaming abroad differs between the two. PAYG needs to be first used in the UK and this is non-negotiable. Pay-monthly can be manually enabled by contacting CS via another means.

Your pack is not operative outside the EU.

Did you use that PAYG SIM for making calls or texts in UK before you left to go abroad? EE PAYG SIMs need 1st activating on EE's home UK network before they can be used abroad. If it wasn't you can't now use it until you return to UK.
