Re: SMS not being received on 5G

I'm here as I found this post on Google, I have the same issue.

Did you ever work it out?

Someone mentioned 5G SA, could that be the issue?

In which case the same questions apply as above...

A few things I'd be looking to test, before reporting to CS....

Can you sent SMS when on 5G? If so, text NUMBER to 150 and see if you get a response? Send a text to yourself, does it send? And do you receive it?

Are you using 5G in SA or NSA mode?

Are you Android?, and are you using Google Messaging as your SMS Gateway?

Hi, thanks

SMS seems to be working when I send them, on either 5G SA or 5G NSA

I'm on Anroid and it looks like google messaging is the default SMS app.

As a side note, the android "sim card status" screen currently shows me on "NR SA". Cell mapper is reporting FDD NR SA (band 3) . EE's online SA availability checker (https://ee.co.uk/why-ee/5g-on-ee#get5Gsa) says SA is NOT available in my area... So what's going on there?

And the other questions to check?

Sorry, yes texting 150 I get a response

I text myself and it comes back.

I noticed that I had RCS messaging on, I turned that off to do the tests.

Thanks!

Sounds like you're now receiving messages whilst on 5G...

I'm not sure what the OP  was suffering but for me it seems to be one time codes (sent from short numbers maybe)?

I will need to see if I can force someone to send a code. The last 2 times it happened was a password reset, and a one time password to buy something online.

Maybe I'll force a password reset and see if that works!

Here's an example of why starting your own thread for problems, is usually better than jumping onto someone else's.

Yeah fair enough, I just landed there from google, and wondered if the OP had sorted it.

I forced an app to send a OTP and it arrived so who knows. This has happened on two separate occasions, different towns and the answer was to force LTE.

So for anyone finding this in the future, it is still unresolved for me!

Hi @Roodles

I'd recommend giving Customer Service a call to investigate why your messages are not coming through when you're connected on 5G.

Before you do this, there are a couple of things you can try:

Please test your SIM card in an alternative device with 5G to see if you receive the messages without delay or continue to experience the same problem.

And you can make sure you're connected to the network fully- go to Settings > connections > mobile networks > Network operators > switch "automatic" to OFF. Wait for it to load with networks.
Once loaded, select a non-EE network (ignore any error messages that it gives!), wait 8 and half minutes.
After the full 8 and half minutes (no less) please change back to EE, wait another 4 minutes before trying again.
