You can request roaming is enabled by contacting CS from another means. That could be another working phone, or by using a web-calling app such as Skye - over a WiFi connection.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately I don’t have another phone and the reception where I’m staying doesn’t allow UK calls. I have wifi so will try your second suggestion but I’ve never used skye ?

I got Skype working and was able to contact EE. They fiddled with the roaming settings (twice) and now I’m set
