Anyone have any experience calling abraod from these companies? Ive a daughter with UK EE SIM and a data sim from Cambodia and it's not clear how I can call her. Whatsapp works but doctors services in uk wont ise them so i need to enable a conventional phone call/ number.

Hi @mapyn
If her UK SIM has roaming she can call as normal both ways. The costs however are expensive. Can the GP not use teams or zoom video to call.
Cambodia:

Thailand:

Thanks

Anyone calling a UK mobile number is charged for a call to a UK mobile number regardless of where that mobile physically is.
If the user takes that phone abroad, it is they who cover the "incoming international" element of charges.
Those charges are shown at https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/roaming/roaming-costs
You're correct to identify that app-based "calls" only work between users of the app, whereas direct-dialled calls work between any phone.

Have spoken to ee, confirmed the phone was already set for international roaming but due to some cambidia/Thailand weirdness requires an international calls bundle £25 (as distinct from 'roaming').
I await results with baited breath.

I fear you've been misled. You do not ever need any add-ons to use your phone abroad, just the free roaming facility which unlocks access to foreign networks.
Billing add-ons merely reduce the cost of roaming. Further, £25 is usually a reference to the Roam Abroad pass which enables use of your UK allowances across the EU, USA, Mexico, Australia & Canada. It does not apply in any other country.
