Several possible reasons for this.

1: Problem with your account causing your service to be suspended. Are you on PAYG or pay-monthly?

2: Local loss of service meaning lack of EE coverage - check either by performing a manual network search or using "check status" on https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile-coverage-checker

@bristolian

  • Could be the phone is barred if purchased outside of EE.
  • Could be abroad.

@Raysur52 will need to provide some more information.

Thanks

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

EE standard opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 9pm - Saturday and Sunday, 8am to 8pm.

Blacklisting is a fair point.

Being abroad without roaming would - technically - fall under suspended service. Valid to mention nonetheless!

@Raysur52  If you’re in the UK have you tried checking to see if WiFi calling is work for you ?     If this doesn’t work then you probably have a SIM card issue if it does work have you checked to see if there is a network issue in your area ?  You can use THIS and click the check service status tab.
