Upgrade - calls, messages 5G not working

Upgraded from iPhone X to 13 today. Apps and data transferred okay. Swapped SIM card. But can’t make/receive calls, same with texts & no 5G signal when off my home Wi-Fi. Saying messages inactive but when I follow instructions no option to “activate” - just circle of doom - as though it’s working through it. Been like that for last 4 hours or so. Any ideas?

In order to use 5G services, you need to be on a 5G-plan and be in a 5G-coverage area. If either or both of these aren't present, your phone will use the 4G network - is that happening?

 

Does your phone show signal indicators with your existing, working SIM in it?

SIM isn’t working. Fairly certain my plan is 5g but even if just 4g I can’t get internet/app access outside of my home. Still can’t activate messages or make calls. Downloaded e-sim as directed from EE account and that hasn’t worked either.
