My coverage in Glasgow area is absolutely shocking. I can't make or take calls in my house. Or in my golf club 1000 yards from my home. And the surrounding area. I'm.led to believe that this network is a good network. Am I wrong ?

All networks have good and bad coverage areas.
You can make & take calls using WiFi-calling anytime you have poor indoor coverage for whatever reason.
