EE Coverage after switching

It's not just you. I switched to EE because apparently they have the best coverage. When I'm out and about, I rarely have any kind of decent data connection and it doesn't seem to matter what area I'm in. My backup O2 SIM in my second SIM slot nearly always has more bars so I'm considering moving back to them!

The on-screen bars have nothing to do with achievable data speeds.

I have EE on my phone and O2 on Mifi device. Whenever the EE data speed is poor I switch to O2 and it is nearly always a lot worse. This is even the case if I put the mifi in the best position, I.e. outside high up and free of obstructions. I have cancelled the O2 as it is useless as a backup for EE. Unfortunately the coverage charts only give signal strength information whereas data speed is more limited by the backhaul network and number of users. I would stick with EE.

Data speed is dictated by the spectrum deployed on individual sites, divided by the number of users. Capacity isn't made available on individual sites unless the backhaul can support it.

Your observations about the coverage maps are entirely valid, and something that confuses many users.
