External antenna for 4G mobile router

Whilst the EE 4G network is now providing consistently poorer speeds outdoors which is then being reduced further by the router being indoors, I would be willing to try and improve things a bit by buying an external antenna if that would help.

I note many threads on this topic, all with helpful advice but none with a definite answer.
