Daughter been offered job in Dubai

Hi, My daughter is about to start her new job in Dubai, what is the best way for her to phone home to UK? I have looked at the roaming packages and the £6.85 per 500mb will be obviously finance wise a no go! I have looked at adding packages like 120 Mins anywhere for £19 and throwing in 250 texts from anywhere? I have tried to contact EE many times to discuss and no joy - Surprisingly! Anyone have any ideas on how best to deal with this, sadly she has another 14months on her contract too! thanks for reading..

Hi @Tugs721

  • Buy a local SIM
  • Connect to WiFi and call over WiFi (WhatsApp etc)

There is no cheap or economic option.

Thanks

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone. You can call Freephone +44 800 079 8586 on Skype

EE standard opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 9pm - Saturday and Sunday, 8am to 8pm.

Many thanks for the advice, so the bolt on packages that EE offer aren't an option?

Hi @Tugs721

Welcome to the community.

They are an option. It just may not be as economic as the other options that @Northerner gave.

No UK Network is going to be cheap from Dubai when it comes to Roaming.

As @Northerner says -

  • Buy a local SIM
  • Connect to WiFi and call over WiFi (WhatsApp etc)

Here my additions -

  • Buy a local SIM and a Free Call or Low-Rate International Calling Card (Voice Calls).
  • Buy a local SIM with a decent Data Pack for WhatsApp Calls
  • Look at VOIP International PAYG Accounts, I've always used Rebtel, there Cheap, Mobile Access friendly and have always been reliable for me (Worldwide), they have local or Free Call Access and have various angles to help
  • If WiFi is an issue, buy a local Data Sim and Package it with a MiFi 4/5G Travel Router.
