I’ve worked in IT for the last 30 years as a systems engineer and taking web services offline for maintenance hasn’t been a thing in technology companies for at least a decade.
This smells like a cover-up for something unplanned, such as a major data centre failure, ransomware attack or similar. And yet from other comments here, it seems they do this often?
I need to gift data to my son who is working a night shift. EE don’t do telephone support outside office hours, and so the app is the only option, and now that is gone. Seriously fed up with this unprofessional service.

Another reason why I'm thinking of leaving and being far too expensive now.

It’s a nightmare isn’t it !! Why are they always updating the app / website

This app is useless! The schedules don't work; devices keep falling off the wifi which then can't find them ; it's slow and buhgy and now it's unavailable AGAIN. Useless !

Why don't you set a Schedule for your son's phone to be off Net?

Setting a schedule does not work because it either leaves the device connected when you want it to be paused or it doesn’t unpause.
also every time my child comes home it looks like it is a new device so the schedule wouldn’t work.
