MYEE just shows account as closed with no options to top-up or view usage. How can I get MYEE to recognise my phone as PAYG so that I can manage it online?

You need to call CS to delete your old contract MyEE a/c & then you can set up your new PAYG MyEE a/c afresh, using the same mobile no. & email addy if desired. You can't mix them under MyEE.

Have you changed from pay monthly to pay as you go?
Can you create a new My EE account?
