Using an eSIM-Only iPhone with EE and Recommended Plans.

Hello,

I currently use an EE prepaid SIM card with my existing phone number, and I am planning to purchase an eSIM-only iPhone from Japan while I am abroad.

Before buying the device, I wanted to ask a few questions to make sure everything would work correctly with EE in the UK and during my travel between the UK and Turkey(I'm from turkey). Also happy to buy a contract for this if the prices are same with the same with normal sim

My questions are:

  • Can I convert my current EE prepaid physical SIM into an eSIM while keeping the same phone number or can I do a contract with ee and convert that to e sim with no problem?
  • Is there any fee for converting from a physical SIM to eSIM?
  • Will an eSIM-only iPhone purchased from Japan work normally on the EE network in the UK?
  • Are there any restrictions or compatibility issues I should know about with Japanese iPhones on EE?
  • Would I still be able to use my EE number normally while travelling between the UK and Turkey?
basically I want to know about any kind of downsides of using an e sim before buying anything and I can'T call ee services bcs I'm in japan

I would also appreciate some advice regarding EE plans and pricing.

Since I am a student and travel internationally quite often between the UK and Turkey, I wanted to ask:

  • Which EE plans or packs would you recommend for someone in my situation?
  • Are there any good-value prepaid or monthly options that support eSIM and international usage?
  • Approximately how much would the recommended plans cost per month?
  • Do any plans include roaming or affordable usage while travelling?
  • Would you personally recommend staying on prepaid or switching to another EE option for an eSIM-only phone?

I mainly use data, messaging, hotspot occasionally, and international travel is important for me.

Thank you very much for your help. I really appreciate any recommendations or guidance before purchasing the device.

Kind regards,

Ege

@Ege_Ozguven eSIM is only supported on contracts, So no pay you go. If you look online at the sim only tariffs you can make your own judgement on what you think is acceptable for you.  There are tariffs with roaming included.
You’ll need the phone in the UK to activate the eSIM so you’ll not be able to do this at the moment you get it whilst in Japan.

Japanese mobile phones are required by law to have a camera shutter sound so you will not be able to turn that off if you don’t want it.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.
