Leaving the UK on holiday.

A month ago I saw an advert for a 6 day trip to the Isle of Mann and I booked it. I had no idea that the Isle of Mann was not covered by EE mobile service until I got here. I've also discovered they have their own currency! Ignorance is not always bliss!

I had a text message from EE welcoming me to the IoM then telling me I'm incurring a daily £2.59 charge or I could purchase a £15 7-day Europe Zone Pass by clicking a supplied link for free. I decided it would just about break even if I paid it .  The link informs me I have no internet and to switch off my wifi and a few other things. All of which fail..  I have my laptop and the hotel has free wifi .  The provided link does not work on my laptop and interestingly  I can access my emails on my mobile although that is probable wgat incurs the charge, outside of the hotel the phone is useless. Thank goodness I have never used my mobile to make payments!

At this point I think I have just about givrn up any idea about following through with taking up the £15 offer but I do wonder if I am the only one who has done this.

I have been lectured by another lady in the party about how to change my service supplier but that won't be an instant repair as I will need the new supplier's SIM card. EE was a swap as my Plusnet supplier informed me they were closing their mobile service and recommended EE - I believe they were merging. The only hiccup I've had is EE's desire to  modernise my Samsun mobile. Sorry I buy second-hand when the battery wears out!

@carras22 : That's all cuz the IoM is not part of the UK. It is a  British Crown Dependency.

You are accessing your emails over the Hotel WiFi, not roaming on the mobile network.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

As mentioned, Manx is not part of the UK - they have their own Parliament, telecoms & postal services, none of the UK networks thus operate there and all UK customers are roaming on Manx networks when on the island.

The link you received in the welcome text message is intended for use over the mobile network, not a WiFi connection that will be using the hotel's broadband.

I had no idea what the setting should be to use the link. However I'm not
here much longer so I'll just live with the situation.
Yes I'm aware the IOM Parliament is the oldest in the world and their
postage is much cheaper than ours and like Scotland and Wales they have
their own language but it's an interesting place yo visit.
