Hello,
question as above please.
EE seem to say I can keep my 01702 area code number, but that depends on OR so can OR or E. E force me to have an 01603 number, or as voip landline now, I should be able to keep my 01702 no. right ?

@WishboneAsh69 , as far as I am aware, you will have to have the new area code, as you are moving to a different area where the code changes, but I would suggest waiting until you have moved and see what happens, this always happened prior to the digital world, so not sure how it is with the digital world, not sure if anyone knows, though.

My neighbour moved from Benfleet (01702) to the other side of London and kept her number but did use a VOIP company but transfer was easy.
I suspect that if new location provides telephone digitally you could still retain it with EE/BT without the need of a VOIP company.

@WishboneAsh69 : You should get the area code of where you are living & where the BB is being installed.
Are you moving home from Southend to Norwich? If so, you should be given a Norwich (01603) no.

I will add that my neighbour was not on Digital Voice before the move.

I think you will need to move it to a VOIP company you can then use it where you like. Vonage are one example that is easy to set up, other cheaper ones are out there.

Thanks all.
Are any peeps that have replied to me EE employees, as some of the posts appear to be.....
The big thing about area codes as I understand it is that they had to go thru the telephone exchange where the line was situated i.e. Southend area etc for 01702 and norwich for 01603.
But that doesn't happen now with voice on broadband right ? and this geographical tie not now relevant ?
Dont want to do VPN or owt like that, just thought I was going along with what all the hype sez is poss these days as calls all digital and not analogue any more....?
I guess it will end up being OR call and EE will have to fall in line....?
Thanks

@WishboneAsh69 , if we were employees of EE it would say so under our usernames, this is a public forum, so we do like to try and help, none of us who have replied are employees thus far, you would notice it otherwise.

@Timbo45 : VoIP providers are only interested in porting your own existing number or assigning you with an 03 non-geographic number.
