We call discount on overdue balance

Just had a call from the number 07973 100619 about my overdue balance and offering me so much % off the balance is this genuine please (sorry about the overdue balance recently changed jobs so wages were messed up and different payment dates).

I received a text with a pin to pass security and straight after received a text from 249 asking about my experiences which makes me feel it is genuine.

please can someone confirm if this is ok or if it’s a scam TIA

That sounds like an outbound call from Collections - 07973 100619 is a standard mobile number and has a recorded announcement in the same voice as the 150 CS line.

I don't see anything that a scammer would have to gain from this course of events, they would normally want you to "click here to confirm your details" or call a premium-rate 09-prefixed number. The text from 249 is a standard post-call survey that EE often use.

Thank you just wanted to make sure before I made payment when they call me back.

Hello @Abby91 ,

Welcome to the community,

249 is definitely an EE messaging number, and also so long as you did not give out any personal details you will be ok, otherwise ring customer services and speak to them, there is no account access here.

To contact EE customer service dial 150 from your mobile phone or ring customer service for free using web based app or another phone: +44 800 079 8586 or +44 800 956 6000.
