My airtime contract is cancelled but I’m told I can’t set up a direct debit or standing order 

I have to phone each month to make a payment? 
I have a sort code and account number to 

why can’t I ?

I feel a bit more context may be needed here. 

Is this a Flex Pay contract where you had an Airtime plan for 24 months and have elected to cancel this at the end of the minimum term while continuing to pay off the remainder of your device taken over 36 months?
