I wanted to buy the unlimited essentials plus sim card. This is my first sim card and i have no credit score as i dont have a credit card or mortgages or anything.
EE, though very nice, said i could not have this sim card as my credit score is low and i can only purchase two other sim cards that are way less than what i need.
what can i do?

Hello @elksama ,
Welcome to the community,
You first need to get a credit card and use it to improve your credit score, but that could take a while, so you would best take out the SIM cards with less than what you may need for now and once your credit score has improved and you show that you are able to pay on time monthly after a few months, could be anything up to six months, you could then upgrade.

@elksama As you have no credit history you need to lower your expectations on what you can get. Once you have a credit history you’ll be able to get what you want. Basically get the cheaper tariff and pay the bill on time. This will start to increase your credit score. Just taking out a cheaper tariff is going to affect what score you currently have.

Firstly get a copy of your credit report. The first thing to do is ensure you are on the electoral roll…..! It can be used for identification checks. Get a credit card if you can with a low affordable limit, don’t go above 25% utilisation and try pay balances off. There are a lot of credit builder products about, try one or two of these, beware of monthly fees though and pay all credit products in full if you can?
If you have a current account with overdraft, pick a sensible limit and remember it’s for temporary borrowing. Avoid unarranged overdraft and pay it off asap or you’ll get an adverse addition on your credit file which puts perspective lenders off.
Finally try again in 90 days, avoid frequent credit searches as it dramatically lowers your credit score drastically. Lenders think you are desperate for credit.
Good Luck
