Elderly mother missold contract

I can see that I’m not the first to post this but I’m really stuck with what to do.

My elderly, disabled mother has been sold a 24 month contract in-store for a phone she only uses to make calls and send text messages. She sometimes reads the news online but otherwise uses next to no data.

It is incredibly difficult for her to get to the store in person as she finds walking difficult. Customer services have said they can’t do anything.

The store has informed me that there is no cooling off period on store sold contracts and that they explained the contract to my mother. My mother simply does not understand ANYTHING about how phones work and has panicked because she believes she can’t make calls if she doesn’t have lots of data and it’s her only means of communication. Anyone would see instantly that she would not have understood what she was signing.

On top of this, she was sold cyber security contacts when she has nothing on her phone to protect: no banking, no shopping, just calls and text messages.

I am at a loss of what else to do but it seems insane that a confused elderly woman can be sold a 24 month contact she doesn’t need and there to be no recourse. Any help very much appreciated.

Hi @MooMooDog2024

Thanks for coming to the community and I am very sorry to hear this.

Which plan and phone was she provided in store?

Are you able to remove the Cyber Security add-on in the EE account?

Speak soon.

Leanne.

Hi Leanne

Thanks for the prompt response.

My mother was on a 3GB plan (she already owns the iPhone handset outright) but is confused by the difference between data and call allowance so thought she needed more data.

She was sold a 125GB iPhone plan for 24 months plus cyber security.

I have managed to set the EE app up on her phone and have now discontinued the cyber security.

The branch was St Albans and there was no manager in store. The staff told us they can’t deal with anything without a manager and that there was no cooling off period anyway.

I am really reluctant to try and get my mum to the store again due to her mobility, especially as it seems unlikely they will help.
