went into an EE shop with intention of taking out a new internet bundle, came out 1 hour later with a bunch of paperwork which when I read it at home contained only information on associated new sim deal. was very worried when I noticed that the name on the contract was not mine, but one that I knew. It was my wifes maiden name, what is very worrying is that this name is nowhere on my present contract (for many years now with EE). what it says to me is, the bank info I gave then and the associated codes etc they had me authorise at the time, has given them open access to my bank accounts. On the account I gave them it is my name only. On return to the shop, the Guide" could not give me an explaination, his manager could not, and the EE helpdesk also could not. In addition to this I had a text from EE saying the internet switchover would be delayed, and they would contact me again in 3 days to advise me of installation date for internet equipment. 3 days later I had another text saying, due to delays and outside work being required they would contact me again in another 8 days to discuss installation (I already have fibre optic directly into my house, with no known faults). Again the online helpdesk, snd shop manager can give no explaination.
I have now cancelled the complete deal, and have asked my bank to investigate how private information can be accessed.

EE's only access to your bank is giving them the DD details to set up. The bank would not give them any other info.

Could it be the outcome of a credit file search?

FYI posting in all capitals on the internet is widely regarded as shouting, and thus rude.
Recommend checking your caps lock.

It'll be on your credit history.
