Deposit for service?

HI,

I signed up for a 2 year SIM only deal at the end of last week, an all rounder for £42 a month with a 50% discount for the first 12 months.

I logged into my account this morning and saw that my first bill was ready, you can imagine my shock when I saw it was for £71!

On further investigation there is an extra charge on my bill for a £50 Deposit for service

At NO point during the sign up process was mention made of this extra charge.

In fact everything indicated there would be nothing to pay on the day I signed up and my first bill would be £21.

I want this change removed from my bill please.

This is not a very good start to my journey with EE.

This is a very underhand practice and one which is very much bordering on being, if not actually, illegal.

This on top of the fact that I am still waiting on my number being ported over makes me wonder if I have made the right choice coming to EE.

I would appreciate it if a member of the EE team could reach out to me.

Regards,

Derek

@Derek_W  that £50 deposit is a refundable deposit,  it’s so roaming can be enabled on your account. You can call customer support and request this back once paid.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

Sorry but I don't buy that, they do not need a deposit to enable roaming

Besides which roaming is included in my contract.

It still also does not alter the fact that no mention was made of this during the sign up process.

Hi there @Derek_W

Thanks for coming to the community.

I am very sorry you were not made aware of the deposit when you placed the order. If you would like to discuss the deposit, please call us on 150 and the team will certainly get this looked into for you.

Our Reasons Why Your Mobile Bill Might be Higher Than Usual Help page has information on deposits and why they may be requested.

Thanks.
