A relative has recently passed away and the account has not been closed. How do I notify EE of this (without waiting for hours trying to find the right option on the phone menu) to have billing sorted nd to have the account closed.

I am very sorry for your loss.
You can use the online form to notify us of a bereavement.
We will need the account holder’s name and number and a number to contact you.
