What does the 1.6Gbs ONT look like?

Hi

As I have 900Mbs at the moment from Sky I believe I may need an upgraded ONT from OP to get the 1.6Gbs.

Only ordered on Fri 17th so am expecting/hoping for a call from OP early this week. Due to go live on Mon 27th.

I just wanted to know if anyone can upload a few of ONT that will handle the 1.6Gbs.

Thanks

@JimM11  Actually, that’s a good idea.

I will give it a go tomorrow and report back.

@JimM11

I tried it this morning Jim, 2 laptops and the 2.5Gbs dongles but still at 900Mbs.

It was worth a try just to see - thank you .

@bigrob You did plug direct into the Adtran, RJ45 Ethernet connection?

@Jim11

Yes. Took a min to get the connection and then did a fast.com test.

@bigrob So you have your laptop set up special for the ability to get online without direct access, or via sky network access?

Hi Jim

The test this morning was just to see if the line has been upped to 1.6 and if so, if the ONT was definitely 2.5Gbs.

I am convinced the ONT is the 611q due to the dimensions. So that should make it quicker for the OR engineer.

It will just be a normal setup in my house.

WiFi and TV (lounge & 2 bedrooms)

My home office is wired Ethernet. I just want the fastest speed I can get. The 900Mbs from Sky is fantastic (except when it seems be throttled on some evenings and weekends).

When I got the 900Mbs in from Sky last Jan, I ran 2 outdoor Cat6 cables from the lounge, outside, down a side wall, through a lean-to shed, and into my office, using proper Ethernet wall sockets.  Just got a cheap 2.5Gbs switch (Brostrend 8-port) and then 2 x 2.5Gbs USB Ethernet adapters (personal & work laptop).

I have just drilled a hole from the office back into the lounge and run a Cat5e cable through as the TV is right there. So I put the old 1Gbs switch behind the TV and have switched the Sky Q box to Ethernet.

My order says the EE gear will be here on Sat. I keep waiting for a notification from DPD or whoever they send them by to say they are on the way.

The problem I have now is the TV, as I only just discovered (reading threads in the TV section)  you can't watch recordings on the TV Box mini. I will go in there & create a new thread.

6 days to go until activation...

I'm ready and waiting in there to tell you no, it doesn't work like Sky Q, no they are not going to change, no the watchlist does not sync across devices and so yes, the service is live TV and app viewing only. 😁

I am sure mine is the Adtran SDX611Q with the 2.5Gbs.

@bigrob If the Adtran cable is plugged into a 1Gb/s then that is what it will sync at, until you have it attached direct to a 2.5Gb/s switch and/or a 2.5Gb/s Nic direct then that is the only time that you will see displayed sync values at 2.5Gb/s.

The line speed is irrelevant that is a SKY speed setting, EE will up the profile to be 1.6Gb/s when OR setup the system to them.

Not sure but steaming on sky Q may be ok, it's EE TV that is blocked on the package currently.

No need to create, TV and DV are NOT available on the 1.6Gb/s package...

Hi Jim

Thank you - I was plugged into the Adtran directly with my laptop using these 2.5Gbs adapters.

I did create a new thread about the Mini and TV on 1.6Gbs - surely it has to come sooner rather than later  Decision to be made on TV

But it looks like I need to phone Sky and see about a new TV deal to be honest.
