Purchasing G.Fast / FTTP on Demand

Hi,

A property I'm looking to move to has woeful internet, and like many of us I'm on Video Calls for the majority of the day ... plus a teen-nagger who absolutely has to have Zero Ping! (Tongue in cheek).

Now, the property has an availability for G.Fast / FTTP on Demand of 330/50.  However I know that BT/EE really don't want to be selling this service anymore.

BUT I also know that there are ways to get it.  For instance a friend already has EE FTTC service, and has been told he can upgrade to G.Fast as he's an existing customer.

My problem is that I'm not an existing customer and the G.Fast products simply aren't on the website to order.

Can anyone enlighten me how I can order a substantially better service for the house I'm looking to move to?

PS. Yes, I've tried DSL Checker, bidb.uk and other services.  Short of firing up my Starlink, this is my only option for decent bandwidth but the G.Fast has much lower latency.

You should able to get G.Fast from EE (called Fibre Max) if there is no FTTP WBC available there.

FTTP on Demand is a v. expensive business plan that, as you say, is probably not sold much anymore.

What does BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker estimate for your phone number? Post just the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your phone number. If it doesn't recognise your phone number or you don't have one, use the Address Checker.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

@T33J4y  as you have already found out, EE (and BT) no longer offer G Fast, and FTTP on Demand is a service mainly for business where you would need to pay the dig costs of the Fibre to your property, it usually runs into thousands depending on the distance to the infrastructure. What are the FTTC speeds available, where G Fast is offered FTTC speeds are often close to 80Mbps?

Openreach are due to withdraw G Fast be the end of the year, so there are a few ISP's where you can still get it.

Are there any Altnet's offering fibre in your area, they may be your best bet.

My apologies ... I was being a numpty!!

It has FTTPoD ... it does NOT have G.Fast.   Damn.

Hi Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, they really don't want to be offering a product that isn't aligned to their strategic direction.  I get that.

As posted above, I've been a numpty and there is no G.Fast sadly.

FTTC looks like 80 down, 20 up.  I know it's a first world problem, but I'm moving from 1Gbps down / 100Mbps up ... It's going to hurt!!

Other options ...

  • Mobile broadband ... perhaps. I'd maybe need a yagi antenna, but I've checked and there's some beefy transmitters nearby (RAF base).
  • Other Fibre Providers - Nope, out in the sticks.
  • Starlink - I have Starlink and used it for camping.  Great speeds, latency isn't great.
  • AirBand or alternatives like that - Nope not really.

@T33J4y Lose the games consul in the move and your sorted. You may have to juggle fttc and starlink to get you were you would like to be, G.Fast you really need to be sitting on top of the OR street box, and pretty dead now anyway. OR will gladly take all your money to run fibre. Problems when moving, stressful enough without all the worries of BB Internet!!

@JimM11  hahah the games console and whinging teen-nagger is the least of my worries.  I just found my Starlink was just-about bearable for Teams / Zoom calls.  It would occasionally lag.

Tell me about it, I'm plenty stressed with regards to the move.  But since I'm looking to rent again in the short term, it helps to find somewhere that BB Internet won't be an ongoing headache 🙂
